About IB

You're probably wondering what we have in common with the singer Joji, the King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, and the co-founder of Facebook, Dustin Moskovitz. Just like us, they did the IB!

But first of all, what is IB? The International Baccalaureate Organization offers three different programmes, the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). Villiers School offers the DP since 2018 and just like all the other IB schools, the focus is on the personal and global orientation. Unlikely other diplomas, the courses are on a college-level and students work more independently. The focus is also on global issues and open-mindedness.

The IBDP is composed of six subject groups which focus on different subject groups, each student needs to pick one from each group. Villiers School offers the following:

- Group 1: Language and Literature A (English); Language A (self-taught)

- Group 2: Language B (English); Language B (German); Language B (French)

- Group 3: Business Management; History; Economics

- Group 4: Biology; Chemistry; Physics

- Group 5: Mathematics SL

- Group 6: Visual Arts; or another subject from Group 1-5

For any more information, see the official Website of the IBO or Villiers School.

In addition to these subjects, there are also CAS, TOK and EE which have to be completed. CAS means Community, Activity and Service and is a nice free time activity next to the academic practices. TOK means Theory of Knowledge and it deals with topics around the nature of knowledge and more. The Extended Essay is an academic essay with the length of 4000 words, the subject and topic is up to the student.
