The benches in the yard

Perhaps one of the first things you notice when you walk through our campus is that we have benches all over the campus.

When it's warm outside, you can see all the students fighting over the benches as if there aren't enough.

Because of the Irish Weather, the highlight is when it's warm enough to teach and work outside!

TOK discussions are different when you have them outside,  just like when you study or complete projects in the sun.

A day In My Life During Home schooling From Past Pupil, Yara Glajcar (class of 2021)

It's 8 am and my alarm is ringing. Drowsily I press the snooze button and hope for a little more sleep. But inwardly I know that I can't do that until the weekend, because breakfast is in 15 minutes. It’s 8:15 a.m. and I'm waiting for my friends in front of my dorm. Together we're go to breakfast and we can already smell the croisants from the stairway. What happens between 8:15 and 9 is not important, I don't think I need to explain that we have breakfast, then I brush my teeth and get ready for school.

Once I arrive in Derravoher, I set up my laptop and I am ready for my first class. From outside I can hear the construction site which is currently next to the building. It nicely reminds me every day that there is still a life or a world outside of school. Isolated in our bubble, I sometimes have the feeling that the world only consists of the people who are at school every day.

School continues as normal, as does my daily screen time on the laptop. I have a competition with myself to see if I can increase the average time every week. So far it has been successful!

I would like to spare everyone a detailed description of my classes, I'm not sure how many people actually want to read what exactly I do in Biology, Maths or English! That's why I get straight to the fun part. Once school is finished, there are two things I do. On lazy days, I do the typical lockdown activity, I puzzle, and while I do that, I listen to podcasts. It's actually really hard to listen and simultaneously to try to distinguish between the different shades of blue for the sky. Or I play badminton with my friends. We listen to loud music and disturb everyone else in the sports hall. Of course, that's not our intention, but it seems that somehow the others don't like our music, because now they bring their headphones.

During the week, we have dinner at 5:30 pm and then prep from 6:15 to 9:30 pm. We were told that it's good to build new rituals into our daily routine, so now we always make ourselves a hot chocolate in the evening. Highly recommended and totally underestimated by most people in my opinion! Like everyone else, we've probably had more variety in our daily lives before. At the moment, I can say that this is how every day from Monday to Friday looks like and if I'm honest, the weekend too!

Hopefully it will be different soon!
