Glendalough Hike:
My IB 1 class, as well as the students of IB 2, set out on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 on our IB Team Building Trip, towards Glendalough. For this, we travelled from Villiers school in Limerick to Glendalough by bus. The purpose of the IB Team Building was to bring the first and second year IB students closer together, as well as to enable an open exchange outside the school building. One of our activities was a hike in Glendalough to the Wicklow Mountains. For this we started our hike at the cemetery in Glendalough. The cemetery had an overwhelming impression on me, with the 33m high and 1000 years old round tower. This tower was used as a place of refuge when the village was attacked. Besides the cemetery is also the church of St. Kevin's. If you want to know more about it click on the following link, which for me personally contains very interesting information : https://glendalough.ie/( source: https://visitwicklow.ie/listing/the-round-tower-glendalough/)
Our next stop on the hike was the Upper Lake, which stretches beautifully down the valley. On this day it was especially stunning to look at the lake. Since the sun was shining, the mountains were reflected in the lake. I especially liked the silence at the lake, which was interrupted from time to time by the splashing of the ducks. We continued on our way and headed up to Wicklow Mountain. The trail winds steeply up the mountain. It took a while to get to the top and I was out of breath when we arrived. However, the view was worth the effort. And some of us, including me, stayed up for a while and enjoyed the sun on our faces before the sun set and we had to hike down.
